Revísame app helps ensure safe alcohol consumption during Easter

Santo Domingo.- During Easter, alcohol consumption in the Dominican Republic tends to rise significantly, prompting authorities to emphasize the importance of responsible drinking and the dangers of illicit alcohol products. To help consumers make safer choices, the General Directorate of Internal Revenue (DGII) recommends using the “Revísame” mobile app to verify the authenticity of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes.
The Revísame app, part of the TRÁFICO traceability system, allows users to scan the tax label on a product to confirm its legal origin. Developed with the Swiss company SICPA, the system uses unique visual and electronic codes to track each product from production to consumption. If a product fails verification, users can report it through the app, including photos and the location.
The app is free and available for both Android and iOS. It scans QR or alphanumeric codes found on tax stamps, which also feature color-changing security ink. Users receive immediate confirmation of a product’s legitimacy, including its name, expiration date, and serial number.
Revísame was recognized by the World Bank in 2023 as a leading example of digital government innovation, praising it for promoting transparency, civic engagement, and reducing illicit trade and tax evasion.
